At EtthiQ, our period underwear is built to last. Comfortable, absorbent, and thoughtfully designed, they’re made to be your reliable companion for years to come.
But after a while (and quite a few well-used cycles), some buildup can sneak into the absorbent layers — leftover detergent, minerals from your water or just natural skin oils. The result? Your underwear might not feel quite as absorbent as before. No worries — a good deep clean can bring them back to life.
Why Use Sodium Percarbonate?
It’s simple: sodium percarbonate is the perfect ingredient for a thorough clean that’s gentle on fabrics.
And just to be clear: sodium percarbonate not baking soda. They’re very different. Percarbonate is the real powerhouse here. It’s natural, effective, and kind to your textiles — deodorizing, lifting stains, and refreshing fibers without fading colors or affecting your underwear’s performance.
You can find it easily at zero-waste shops, health food stores or online.
Step-by-Step Guide
1. Rinse with lukewarm water
After wearing, rinse your underwear until the water runs clear. Avoid hot water at this stage—it can set stains and make cleaning harder.
2. Soak with sodium percarbonate
Fill a basin with hot water (around 60°C — this is important because that’s when percarbonate activates). Add 1 tablespoon of sodium percarbonate per 2 to 3 litres of water. Stir gently, then soak your underwear for at least 4 hours, or ideally overnight.
3. Wash as usual
After soaking, wash gently with a mild detergent (no glycerin or fabric softeners) in cold water, as you normally would. Then, air dry—never use the dryer.
How Often Should You Deep Clean?
Not too often — once or twice a year is enough, even if you wear your period underwear regularly.
A good deep clean is a simple way to keep your underwear feeling fresh and performing their best, without compromising softness or comfort.
